“Upon awaking on a Monday morning, a knot was hurting under my left shoulder blade. ‘Cricks are something I have had all my life off and on, so I wasn’t alarmed and figured the pain would go away soon and I would tough it out. Well, it didn’t go away, so I went to the ER looking for some kind of relief. As expected, I was prescribed the usual – muscle relaxers and pain medication, and told to rest. After five days, I was still hurting, and the area of pain had grown up my back into my neck and also my scalp. Once again, I went to the emergency room, and once again I was told it would take time. When I arrived at the doorstep of Dr. Clare and Dr. Stewart in January I was in such excruciating pain that I could not even sit upright in a chair. When I called them on my doctor’s recommendation I told them that I had never been to a chiropractor before. When I described the kind of pain I was in they told me to come over that same day. They immediately sent me for x-rays before they determined a treatment plan which included acupuncture which I had never tried either. I admitted to them I was skeptical they could help me but I have not regretted the decision for one moment. “Three months ago I woke up, tried to yawn, and heard a loud pop in my right jaw. After that I knew I had a problem because I had TMJ in my early 20s. I went to the dentist who recommended several things: sending me to a specialist, a bite guard, and possibly dental implants. I was sent to another doctor who specializes in facial pain. He recommended the same things that the dentist did, and was not able to help me. While getting a crown put on a cracked tooth, the dental assistant asked me if I had ever tried a chiropractor for the TMJ. I told her no, but I knew the wonders chiropractors had performed on me in the past through therapies and acupuncture. I drove to Carolina Spine and Complementary Medicine the next day to speak to see if they would be able to help me because they were the ones that relieved me of my neck and chest pain problems I had the prior year. I told them what was going on with my jaw and they saw me immediately and set up a schedule for regular treatments. Within 3 weeks I was able to chew again. I can open my mouth wider than I was able to. I still have some grinding in the jaw but there really is not anything that I can’t eat and when I yawn I sometimes forget and open my mouth and it doesn’t stick anymore. I was in a lot of pain before my chiropractic treatments and couldn’t hardly eat anything and now I can eat a salad again, potato chips and even chew grapes. I recommend chiropractors for anyone dealing with pain.”
